Hair Type 2: Fine and Dry Hair

You have fine and dry hair that is straight or wavy. You’re well and truly blessed because you can experiment with different textures to boost the volume of your hair.

We have the products that will work best for your hair type as well as tips and tricks to elevate your look.

Your Hair Type and What It Means

The word ‘fine‘, in terms of hair, refers to the thickness, width and/or diameter of the individual hair strand. This is one of the main differences between fine and thin hair, as when looking at fine hair, you are looking at the physical size of the hair.

It’s important to note, you can have fine hair, and have a lot of it!

Other Characteristics Of Fine Hair

  • Fine hair can be more easily straightened.
  • Each strand is lightweight.
  • Fine hair can be fragile and prone to breakage, due to the small diameter of each strand.
  • It tends to be more difficult to style, due to a lack of volume.
  • Fine hair can become greasy more easily.

Dry hair is characterised by a lack of sufficient moisture and natural oils, which are essential for maintaining its softness, shine, and overall health. This condition can lead to hair that feels rough, looks dull, and is more prone to damage and breakage.

Try salt sprays, powder and thickening treatments and enhance your hair’s natural movement with products that pump up the volume, without weighing down hair. When your hair is feeling a little on the dry side, reach for a hydrating hair treatment.

Take a look at some of our favourite products for fine and dry hair below.

Shampoo and Conditioner

For fine hair like yours, you want to build body without using products that will strip the hair.

Although your hair needs nourishing, don’t use too much conditioner, after washing your hair, as it can over moisturise the hair and lie flat.

Pre-Style

Pre-styling is the first step in styling your hair. You will generally add a pre-styler to damp hair.

A hair mousse or protective prepping spray can help prevent fine hair from breaking and a thickening pre-styler will help to boost and plump your hair.

Styling Products

As your hair is fine, we don’t recommend using heavy styling products, like thick wax, as this will weigh the hair down.

Instead, try a powder or clay, you will only need to use a small amount of product.
