Maluma: Long, Wavy Hairstyle

3.0 3 Star

He’s a Columbian music megastar, with incredible style and an amazing head of long, dark, waves – meet Maluma, the man who made all the best-dressed lists after the 2024 Grammy’s.

MFH reckons his casually undone, yet totally on-point hair – with a hint of undercut – was just as much a part of his winning look as his Dolce & Gabbana suit…

MFH says

His long, dark, wavy hair might be the envy of millions, but by the time you read this, Maluma will probably have a new look.

He’s sold over 18 million records, but it seems he’s had almost the same amount of hairstyles since he emerged in 2010.

So it’s no surprise that he admitted to GQ UK online that…”my hair is extremely important to me.”

Talking to the publication in 2021 when he had a bleached crop with a high skin fade, he went on to say: “The hair and the beard shape my appearance. When I don’t have my barber with me, I do it myself. I have my hair cut two or three times a week. The sides always need to look razor-sharp.

Now that his hair is shoulder-length, MFH can’t help but wonder if he has someone employed in his team to keep it frizz-free and shiny.

MFH likes to think so…

  • If you’ve got short hair and want Maluma’s length, let your barber know.
  • They will then be able to trim/cut your hair in a way that helps the hair grow down without looking too messy.
  • Be aware you need patience: The rate your hair grows can vary due to things like genetics, age, health, and lifestyle.
  • On average, hair grows about half an inch (1.25 centimetres) per month – so that means it could take approximately 18 to 24 months (or 1.5 to 2 years) for short, wavy, hair to grow to shoulder-length.
  • As your hair is likely to go through quite a lot of awkward stages, you should still get regular trims to help it look a little better as it grows, and to get rid of any split ends that might hamper growth.
  • Don’t forget, taking good care of your hair through proper nutrition, hydration, and a healthy lifestyle can help your barnet grow.
  • To get shiny, healthy, long hair like Maluma, try to only wash your hair 2-3 times a week if possible, using sulfate and paraben-free shampoo and conditioners.
  • Use a deep conditioning treatment once a week and leave it on overnight – look out for ingredients like coconut oil, argan oil, or shea butter
  • Use a wide-tooth comb instead of a brush to detangle wet hair, as it’s more prone to breakage.
  • Start combing from the ends and work your way up to the roots to avoid pulling and causing damage.
  • Try to let the hair dry naturally when you can.
  • If you need to speed up the drying process, wrap it in a microfibre towel, gently pat out the excess water, and leave the towel on the hair for about 15 minutes while you get ready.
  • Apply a nourishing curl cream, making sure you run it through roots to ends.
  • If you have to use a hair dryer, spritz on a heat protector first.
  • Divide your hair into manageable sections using clips or hair ties. This will make it easier to style and ensure that each section gets evenly dried.
  •  Attach a diffuser to your hairdryer if you want to enhance your natural waves
  • Start blow drying your hair on a low to medium heat setting, using your fingers to tousle and lift your hair at the roots for added volume.
  • If you’re using a diffuser, scrunch your hair upwards towards your scalp to encourage the natural wave pattern.
  • Once your hair is mostly dry, switch to the cool setting on your blow dryer and blast your hair with cold air.
  • This helps set the style and adds shine while reducing frizz.
  • Once your hair is dry and styled to your liking, use your fingers to tousle and arrange your hair into place.
  • You can also use a bit of pomade to tame any flyaways or add extra hold if needed.
