Why We Love It:

This is a product that is as true to its marketing as it is to styling.

Medium hold, natural finish; Shear Rival Crystal Lake is easy to apply and style with. Wear it back and up into a pomp, or down and across on the parting; it’s a versatile product that allows the hair to be played with all day.

Where other water-based pomades tend to dry hard and flake, this hair product retains moisture and keeps the hair feeling fresh all day.

What Shear Revival Say…

Crystal Lake Water Based Pomade is a medium hold, lightweight, cream pomade. Always keeping the hair’s health in mind, each jar is handmade with quality plant-derived ingredients, unlike a lot of water based products on the market which are full of harsh chemicals and can make your hair flaky or dry. Crystal Lake does not harden up, allowing you to restyle all day like a traditional oil based pomade. Added bonus: it washes out with shampoo. Get ready to revive your hair…again and again and again…

  • 98% plant derived ingredients.

People don’t call this pomade the best in the pomade game for nothing. At first I thought that modify pomade from Hanz De Fuko is a pomade but after exploring more and more pomades like this I realize that it wasn’t an actual pomade. With Crystal Lake, I feel that it’s what an actual Unorthodox water based pomade should be about I do like the ease of restyling throughout the day. Any water based unorthodox pomade like this would be great for a date, Job interviews, presentation or lazy days( sometimes). I would absolutely recommend this product for anyone who wants to go for the slick back look or a side part.

really great product. It’s more than I would spend on a hair product but the usual high street stuff is pretty pony so well worth forking out the extra for it. Hold is much better than I expected too, even with slightly longer hair (lockdown locks). All round, great recommend. Thanks!

I admittedly don’t use this one anymore but that’s only because I grew my hair out and it isn’t meant for long hair.

When I had shorter-medium length hair this product was my long time go to. For starters the smell is fantastic. It’s nothing fancy but it’s really fresh and clean which I prefer to specific strong scents anyway.

Hold level is a solid medium which I also prefer. I was never a fan of having my hair locked in place like cement. Application is a dream. No tugging or pulling in the slightest and finish is a nice medium shine, and finally the wash out is as easy as just running your head under some water. Crystal Lake in my opinion is the gold standard for what a UWB pomade should be.

      Dear Strapping Young Ladam,

I was wondering if you can enlighten me with what type of product you use now. I used to use a wax cream by Dauntless but now that I am letting my hair grow out that product and some other failed attempts seem to do close to nothing anymore to atleast keep it out of my face. I was thinking about buying this one, because thus far I’ve only been trying clays and waxes, till reading ur review. By the way, in case this influences ur advice, I have very straight hair so that might make it even harder.

If you happen to read this, thanks in advance!

I’ve been using this product for about a month now and I’m super impressed with how easy it is to use and how great the style turned out. I usually like to style my hair into a nice clean side part and I like my products with a bit of shine so this product was perfect for me. I liked the fact that it had medium pliable hold. If you want a stronger hold found that 2 scoops was needed. Washability is great no issues with it coming out of my hair. I also think that having naturally derived and healthy ingredients are a great addition to this product. Fully recommended if anyone is looking for a medium hold medium shine creamy pomade that is also versatile.

    I hated this product…

But now I LOVE it. It is my daily driver. Or at least one of my regular go to’s.

Emulsifies and applies like a dream. 3-4 scoops (depending on size of scoop) into hair after pre-styling with Aveda’s Thickening Tonic and boom, I have a hairstyle that lasts all day.

Perfect for slick backs/slightly volumized parts/slick backs.

This is definitely the best pomade for a classy look that isn’t greasy or cemented into place. If you want a little more hold you need only use a pre-styler with more hold to it. When using Crystal Lake I prestyle with Pregame from Salon Guy. Hair doesn’t move throughout the day but you can still run your hands through it no bother.

Any idea where to buy this product from europe? It’s sold out everywhere, apparently. Not even on UK Amazon. We can buy directly from Shea Revival but, I mean, the time of delivery and the shipping price… I don’t want to sell a kidney to buy a pomade.

If you have one left, I’ll take it.

    Hey Robin,

When using this product I love the natural feel and look. Smell for me personally is amazing and application with the product is very smooth and no tugging and offers a very natural look. My only complaint would be hold, do you have a suggestion on a product to pair with this to add additional hold without making my hair feel greasy or too shiny. I prefer a closer to natural look.

Thank you for amazing content for us gentlemen.

Sorry Robin, the picture I attached didn’t make it through last time, hopefully it appears now.

  • Adam says:

The way I use this is more for traditional slick pompadour. It has just enough hold to give me nice volume and height and the right amount of controll and slickness to keep my normal to coarse hair in place. The scent is really good, very sweet with nice middle tones (I smell a bit of cinnamon to be honest). Scoop and breakdown are effortless, Zach really went all the way through with this product, it is packed with nourishing natural ingredients, your hair just feels nice and soft after rinsing. There is just a mild buildup after rinsing with just water but one shampoo is enough to get it all alway. Nice product for a winter season. A freaking +

Hey Adam! Glad you also love it. I’ve been using it a lot over the past few weeks. Would be great to see a picture of how you use it, if you have one?
