Troye Sivan’s Hair: Short, Curly Hair With Highlights
Pop star and actor Troye Sivan’s hair has been an ever-changing experiment, and MFH loves the latest look for his curls: a short haircut with those blonde highlights.
Though we suspect he’ll have changed it again by the time you finish reading this sentence…
Why We Love It:
Troye Sivan’s hair has form: he was one of the first celebs to rock a curly mini mullet, after setting serious trends with this longer 80s-influenced style.
Colour-wise, he’s had everything from platinum blonde to grey, jet black to burgundy
But Troye’s short, curly haircut showcases his petite features, while those piecey blonde highlights throughout really enhance his eye colour and his skin tone
It’s no surprise, then, that global hair brand, Schwarzkopf, has just announced him as their Global Ambassador.
“My hair to me, it’s just another way to kind of express yourself… a way to signify change and growth…” he is quoted as saying on Schwarzkopf Pro’s Instagram account.
“Hair colour can really change the way you feel about yourself, and how other people see you,” Troye continued, while revealing those new honey-blonde highlights.
If you’re keen on Troye Sivan’s hairstyle, be aware that it comes with a side order of high maintenance: highlights cause damage so you need to take time at home to nourish and protect your hair.
What To Ask Your Barber:
- Troye’s Sivan’s hair is tapered gently at the sides and back.
- It is longer at the top – it looks to be around 3-4 inches long.
- Keep in mind that curls spring up and get shorter when they dry so your hairdresser will need to be skilled at cutting curly hair.
- Troye’s stylist will have layered/point-cut the texture throughout to remove the weight so it sits well.
- His hair looks like it has been tinted a honey blonde colour throughout, then pieces of it have been pulled out and highlighted a brighter blonde.
- This is a look that is best left to the professionals, trust MFH!
- If you want this look, ask your hairdresser if they use a product like K18 as part of the coloring process.
- This is a bond-strengthening product that repairs damaged hair follicles from the inside out.
- It’s worth investing and paying a little extra to have this treatment to preserve your hair’s integrity.
Get The Look
- Troye Sivan’s hair is naturally curly, and now it has been coloured and highlighted, it’ll need extra care so it doesn’t become dry and frizzy.
- Try to avoid washing your hair more than 2-3 times a week if possible.
- If your hair starts to look too yellow, use a purple shampoo once a week to tone down the brassiness.
- Then when you towel dry your hair, gently pat the moisture out with a towel – don’t rub it as that encourages frizz.
- Even better, wrap it in an old cotton T-shirt, or invest in a small microfibre hair towel and wrap it in that to soak up the excess moisture.
- Coat your hair evenly from roots to tips with curl cream first.
- Then spritz on a texture spray or volumising mousse and then heat protector over that.
- Use a hairdryer with a diffuser: this spreads out the airflow to help the curls stay structured.
- Gently hold the diffuser close to your head, moving it around gently to dry one section at a time.
- For a bit of texture and curl separation when it’s dry, take a small amount of medium hold pliable paste.
- Rub it between your fingers first to warm it up and make it easier to apply, then gently tousle your hair throughout with it.
- To tame any frizz/fluff, apply a tiny bit of anti-frizz oil to your hands, rub them together to make it spreadable, then work it it through the hair.
- Use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week.
- When you apply it, then put a shower cap for about 30 minutes which heats the hair and helps it absorb the product.
