Man for Himself

Try These Fragrances In 2020

Man For Himself tried a huge range of fragrances in 2019, but there are many more to try (and review!). We are looking forward to discovering some of these brands, recommended by you, in 2020.

We really enjoyed exploring the expansive, and ever growing, world of fragrances in 2019 but we know there is so much more out there to discover.

In 2020, we aim to try and review lots of new brands, as well as well-established perfumeries that we haven’t have the opportunity to have a good sniff of yet.

You guys have been really helpful by recommending a few brands in the comments on the Man For Himself YouTube channel, and so we have pulled together a list of brands that we are excited to try this year.

PARFUMS DE MARLY

This is brand that SO many of you have recommended.

Man For Himself was actually invited to Paris with Parfums de Marly at the end of 2019, to get the know the brand and their fragrances.

The brand has been around for about 10 years now, so it is relatively new in comparison to other large fragrance houses. They take inspiration from the 18th century – the era of Louis XV and Chateau de Marly – to create an elaborate, almost exotic, but contemporary collection of fragrances.

We have tried Kalan at MFH HQ, which we are really enjoying. It is an intense fragrance with strong notes of black pepper, sandalwood and spices but also quite fruity and light with the blend of blood orange and orange blossom.

Man For Himself tested a few others whilst in Paris. They are definitely high-end, luxurious, and unique parfums.

BYREDO

We’ve heard great things about Byredo. Surprisingly, we haven’t featured them in the MFH fragrance wardrobe yet, but we hope to this year.

The premium brand was founded in Sweden in 2006. In 2013 a majority of the brand was bought by Manzita Capital, who also own SpaceNK. They are most well-known for their fragrances but they also produce some amazing leather goods and accessories, as well as homewares.

Byredo currently have 14 fragrances in their collection, with Super Cedar being voted by Forbes as one of the best scents back in 2016.

Their fragrances are categorised into 5 groups; Citrus, Floral, Fruity, Oriental, and Woody.

Do you have a favourite Byredo scent? Let us know down below!

LE LABO

Le Labo has become such a cult brand over the years. If you know of them, you probably know their best-selling fragrance Santal 33. Everyone seems to have a bottle!

This New York-based brand was founded in 2006 by Eddie Roschi and Fabrice Penot, but was bought by Estée Lauder Companies in 2014. They are well known for their handmade fragrances, produced with high quality raw ingredients.

Within their collection there are 18 fragrances, along with a range of homeware products such as candles, room scents. Also, not forgetting their great men’s grooming products like shaving cream, deodorant, beard oil and Styling Concrete (which we are yet to try!).

If you haven’t been into one of their stores, we definitely recommend it. When you buy a fragrance they will personally mix it for you.

JEREMY FRAGRANCE

If you love your fragrances, and social media, you will probably have heard of Jeremy Fragrance.

He has grown an impressive audience on YouTube over the last few years, talking about everything there is to do with the world of fragrance, particularly for men.

There are quite a few social media ‘stars’s who have recently bought out their own products (some of which we have already reviewed here) and Jeremy is another one to jump onboard.

He had released two fragrances so far; Office and Date.

They have a relatively high price point, with minimal packaging, but we are intrigued to say the least and look forward to reviewing them both.

frederic-malle-fragrance-man-for-himself

FRÉDÉRIC MALLE

This luxury perfume brand really excites us at MFH HQ. From what we have smelt so far, the fragrances smell amazing.

We were actually out filming a recent episode of Street Styled and came across barber Matt, who we instantly asked what fragrance he was wearing, and it happened to be Frédéric Malle!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the brand, Frédéric Malle was actually born into a family of perfumers. His grandfather actually founded Parfums Christian Dior, which he passed onto his mother after he passed away.

Frédéric Malle is an absolute perfume expert and now acts as the ‘editor‘ for the brands handpicked perfumers who work together to create their fragrances. Each perfume is seen as a work of art, where perfumers can use the brand to establish themselves as artists.
