Matty Healy: Curly High Top Quiff
The 1975 frontman parades his thick barnet with his curls flying high in this carefully coiffed and quiffed faux high-top look.
Why We Love It:
Controversial he might be to Taylor Swift fans, but when it comes to barnets, Matty Healy’s covetable curls tick a lot of boxes: They’re thick, glossy and versatile.
He is, after all, a man who’s rocked more hairstyles than T-Swift has written songs about her exes.
Here, he’s styled his curly hair into a faux high-top quiff look which would involve plenty of product with high-strength hold.
Just as well MFH has the tips and best buys to help you recreate the look yourself.
What To Ask Your Barber:
- Matty’s hair is probably around 4 inches long on the top – but the curls make it spring back and look shorter.
- His barber would have cut the weight out of the hair on the top and at the back to make it easier to style.
- His hair is cut in a little at the sides which almost looks like a grown out fade.
Get The Look
- Curls need a lot of care so they don’t go frizzy.
- Only wash your hair 2-3 times a week, using curl-friendly shampoo and conditioner.
- Gently pat the hair dry, or, better still, wrap it in a microfibre hair towel.
- Comb through damp hair with a wide-toothed comb,
- Apply a curl cream to prep and prime your curls to look their best.
- Then add a strong-hold volumising mousse.
- Warm a small amount of strong-hold pomade in the hands, and work it through the roots of the hair.
- Spritz with heat protector, then tip your head upside down and blowdry your hair using a diffuser, gently scrunching and lifting the hair at the roots as you go.
- Use a little extra pomade when it’s dry to shape the quiff, smooth the sides, and tame strays.
- Finish with hairspray to safeguard your style.
