Follow my tutorial to create your own dip-dye bleached ombre piece of clothing. It’s so easy!

You will need…

  • A t-shirt/shirt to dip-dye
  • A bucket
  • Household bleach (2 parts)
  • Warm water (1 part)
  • Plastic bag
  • Elastic band
  • Plastic gloves
  • Clothes peg/clip
  • Salt

Method…

  1. Lay your t-shirt or shirt on a clean work service
  2. Fold your t-shirt on the vertical, until it’s about a quarter of the original width
  3. Decide where you want the dip-dye to begin
  4. Tie off the area you don’t want bleached with the plastic bag and an elastic band
  5. Put your gloves on
  6. Fill the bucket with the warm water and bleach (ratio of 2:1)
  7. Give the solution a mix
  8. Begin to introduce your t-shirt (uncovered end first) into the bleach solution. Stop when you get to where it has been tied off
  9. Secure the top of the bag/t-shirt with a clip to the bucket
  10. Leave for 20 minutes
  11. Go back and pull the t-shirt slightly out of the bucket and secure back in place
  12. Leave for another 20 minutes
  13. Go back and pull the t-shirt further out of the bucket
  14. Leave for a final 20 minutes
  15. Remove the t-shirt from the bucket and safely pour away the solution
  16. Take the t-shirt out of the bag and rinse it with cold water
  17. Fill the bucket (now clean) with salt and water
  18. Leave your t-shirt to soak in the bucket for 30 minutes
  19. After 30 minutes, wash your t-shirt with your usual detergent at a 40 degree heat
  20. Hang the t-shirt up to dry
  21. Done!
