Adam Peaty: Crew Cut With High Skin Fade

Adam Peaty’s hair wins MFH’s gold medal for Best in Pool. His crew cut with high skin fade makes a splash despite being under a skin-tight swim cap and submerged in chlorine.

Why We Love It:

Adam Peaty’s hair was made for the winner’s podium.

Because despite having been tucked into an unforgiving skin-tight swim cap and submerged in chlorine during a nail-biting Olympic swimming final [this photo was taken just after Adam won an Olympic silver in the 100m breaststroke] his crew-cut barnet still made a splash.

The sign of a seriously good haircut, right?

This crew cut crop with high skin fade is an easy-care style too. He could let it simply let it dry naturally in the sun, ruffling it with his fingers to bring out the texture and a little bit of tousle.

Or, if he did go for a celebratory champagne after his win and wanted his hair to look a bit more polished, it would have just taken a quick run-through with some pomade to liven the texture, and a blast with a hairdryer to help him lift the fringe area into a subtle quiff. Gold medal style in a flash.

And MFH may have uncovered the man behind the hair.

According to Staffordshire Live, Adam Peaty’s hair has been attended to by the same hairdresser, Al’s Barber Shop in Church Street, Uttoxeter, Staffs, since he was a lad. The single dad gave the Olympian free haircuts for years.

Proving that barbers are more than just skilled with scissors, some years back Al had to give Adam some encouragement when he had a confidence crash. (Adam then went on to win gold in Rio!)

Peaty said: โ€œMy barber sorted me out right there and then. He said: โ€˜Youโ€™ve got nothing to worry about it. Itโ€™s simple. Youโ€™re world champion, arenโ€™t you?โ€™โ€

What To Ask Your Barber:

  • Aside from showing them this picture of Adam Peaty, it’s worth discussing whether you want to go shorter or longer on top, or opt for a less severe fade.
  • Adam’s hair looks to be around two inches on top, especially in the fringe area.
  • It is graduated to slightly shorter, textured lengths.
  • The sides of his hair are shaved into a severe high skin fade.
  • This is a strong look and might not be for everyone, so you can adapt the style to suit with your barber.
  • A high skin fade will also require regular trims at the barber to keep it looking fresh – Peaty gets a trim every six weeks or so.

Get The Look

  • Adam Peaty’s hair is a pretty versatile crew cut.
  • He can leave it to dry naturally, just adding in a little pomade to boost the texture after it’s dry and give it a tousled look.
  • Or he can apply a little mousse for lift first, then add a small amount of pomade before blow-drying his hair on medium, using a vent brush to add a little height to his fringe for a semi-quiff look.
  • He could even slick it right back with product if he’s rushing from a pool training session to a night out with friends.
  • If you swim a lot, your hair will get damaged from the chlorine.
  • To dissolve chlorine/chemicals, use a shampoo with acids and compounds like Vitamin C and apple cider vinegar post-swim.
  • You could also use a nourishing leave-in conditioner regularly after washing, and/or a deep conditioning treatment once a week – ideally leaving it on overnight while you sleep.
