Costa Azzurra feels like a very middle of the road fresh fragrance. It’s pleasant and it’s inoffensive, but I’m pretty sure I’ve smelled this wafting off the suit of every second City Boy on the tube. Now, don’t get me wrong, that’s not a bad thing; it just smells very familiar.
It’s pleasant and smells ‘nice’ but it’s not exciting and it lacks the hallmarks of a winning Tom Ford fragrance. The best fragrances by Tom Ford are evocative and transportive. They do what great fragrance should – they make you feel and experience.
I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with the re-release of Tom Ford Costa Azzurra into the Signature Collection. The original Tom Ford Costa Azzurra was released as a Private Blend fragrance in 2014; and had a price tag of double what it is today. With discontinuing a fragrance and then relaunching it for a fraction of the price, it makes me question the quality and value of the original offering.
This is a mass-market Tom Ford fragrance. It’s a safe bet by the Marketing Department and will be sure to sell. Bring on the Christmas gift set with a matching body wash and body spray.
Lavender, geranium, oakmoss, lavandin, African rosemary, patchouli.
What They Say
“I have always loved fragrances with a transportive quality. Costa Azzurra captures the relaxed and sexy mood of the Mediterranean – for me, it feels like the ultimate escape.” – TOM FORD
Costa Azzurra evokes the sensual ease of a Mediterranean escape, merging sea air freshness with the warmth of the sun on the body. A transportive dream.
An instant hit of exhilarating sea air mixes saltiness with the woody scent of dunes – a crisp medley of cypress, oaks and aromatics. Like shafts of sunlight on wet skin, citrus brightens the pinecones and needles at the scent’s core. The liquid amber facets of cistus absolute capture the denouement of the Costa Azzurra experience.
