Oudh… One of the most expensive ingredients that perfumers can use, in the Middle East it is known as ‘black gold’. This dark resinous oil derived from agarwood gives a long lasting and intoxicating depth. Tagete… extracted from marigold blossom, this spicy aromatic element gives a warmth to the fragrance Sweet Note (Maltol)… In contrast to many traditional Oud fragrances, the maltol gives a sweet caramel edge to compliment the richness of the oud.
Why We Love It:
I’ve become just a little (lot!) obsessed with Miller Harris Oud Eclat.
Love them or loathe them, Ouds are hugely popular. They tend to be decadent and heavy – leaving a huge trail of scent behind the wearer. Oud Eclat, however, is one that could change your mind on what an oud can be. Moving the oud note to the top of the fragrance structure gives the scent a beautiful, rich depth on opening. This combined with a sugary sweetness envelopes the wearer in a gorgeous blanket of luxury. It has a lightness to it that really feels inviting.
The performance is great – both in projection and longevity on the skin. Very much worth the price tag.

What They Say
Miller Harris introduces a beautiful new fragrance that turns the original idea of oud on its head
Whether you’re an existing oud lover or just becoming acquainted with it, Oud Éclat, the latest scent from Miller Harris is guaranteed to turn the tables on what you would normally expect from this mesmerising ingredient.
Oud Éclat formulates oud within a shimmering structure of sugar and musk that will reset people’s perceptions of what this iconic scent ingredient is capable of. While oud usually takes centre stage in most perfumes, enveloping the wearer in a dark cloak of leathery earthy notes and spices, here it takes a more subtle role.
In Oud Éclat , the oud actually forms part of the top notes (what you smell when you first apply the perfume) blended with cashmere wood, which then warms up to notes of sugar, tagete, balsam and nutmeg for a much more beguiling bouquet. This is underscored by a rich base of moss and musk that deliver a memorable, mellow dry down.
The perfumer Emilie Bouge, took inspiration from the movement of lead and glass as they both entwine in the creation of crystal to fuse together the beauty of light and dark. Composed of light and shadows, crystals are formed when lead is poured into glass and the balance is exact. This balance is what Oud Éclat pays tribute to with the shimmering, sugary accord offering brightness which offsets the oud’s rich deepness. The result is a highly complex bouquet which is unisex and extremely wearable – whatever your perfume preference.
An addictive, iridescent fragrance built around oud but set within a complex formulation to shine a different light where the star note is enveloped in complex accords, that reset your perception of this sought after ingredient. The oud can be found in the opening notes with a cashmere wood accord set around a bouquet of tagete (marigold).
The fragrance soon takes on a more complex and mysterious structure where a sugar accord of maltol blends with shimmering ambrette, fir balsam and nutmeg to bring a complex, almost ethereal emotion to the fragrance. A musk and mossy base, along with the continuation of the sugar note maturing long after the first spray.
