1. Spike Fearn’s Hair: 70s Shag Meets 80s Mullet With Soft Fringe

Spike Fearn’s mullet and medium-length shag, or a shullet as we’d like to call it, has drawn many people’s attention despite being a Hollywood newcomer.

The Alien: Romulus actor’s style is trendy, fashion-forward and flattering. It stands out without being overly unconventional.

The secret to this look? Spike rocks a textured, shaggy mop of hair with a piecey fringe up top. Meanwhile, the sides are cut shorter for a subtle mullet effect. The back is just as fun, with his collar-length locks flaired out at the ends in an effortlessly cool way.

If you have fine or thick, straight or lightly wavy hair, this haircut will suit you perfectly.

What To Ask Your Barber:

  • If you want a haircut like Spike Fearn’s, it’s important to find a barber or stylist with experience cutting textured styles.
  • You’ll want to ensure the short sides and back don’t end up looking like a bowl plunked on top of a mullet
  • The top length is a few inches long and has been point cut or razor cut for a choppy, slightly tousled texture. The fringe is cut just above the eyebrows to give it texture without being too heavy.
  • The sides of the hair are also cut with a lot of piecey, textured layers.
  • Even the back gets texture so it doesn’t sit too flat.
  • His natural waves make the hair flip out nicely on the sides.
  • Be sure to schedule regular trims every 6-8 weeks. This keeps the style looking good and prevents it from getting too heavy or flat over time.
  • If you get tired of the mullet look, ask your barber to cut more length off the back and shape the top similar to Corey Mylchreest’s cut for a fresher update on the style.

How To Style:

  • Start with a golf ball-sized amount of mousse or a few sprays of sea salt spray gently worked through damp hair from roots to ends.
  • Blast it with your hairdryer on medium heat while lightly tousling for volume.
  • Use a vent brush at the back to flip the hair up on the sides like Spike does.
  • For extra hold, run some heated straighteners along the hair to grip and flip it outwards.
  • Once dry, warm a tiny bit of pomade between your hands and scrunch it into the top layer for lift and movement.
  • Drag any excess through the fringe to give it a piecey texture.
  • Finish the look with a light mist of hairspray to keep it all in place.

2. Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Long, Curly, Swept Back Hairstyle

Aaron Taylor-Johnson has adopted a long, curly hairstyle that would suit a character from a period drama film. His dark locks flow freely, though he uses some product to slick the fringe away from his face.

This style allows his curls to drop naturally as the hair lengthens. Generally speaking, longer curls will tend to loosen up more than shorter curls, giving it a more laidback look.

Aaron knows what he’s doing donning this swept-back style that highlights his strong features and chiselled bone structure.

What To Ask Your Barber:

  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s hairstyle appears to be a basic one-length scissor cut all over.
  • With Aaron’s hair being so thick and curly, it tends to grow outwards instead of laying neatly. His stylist likely incorporated some layering to remove weight and prevent it from “mushrooming”. If you have the same unruly hair, be sure to discuss what the best course of action is with your stylist.
  • When dry, Aaron’s hair sits just above his collar. But when wet, it probably reaches down to around shoulder length.

How To Style:

  • Only wash your hair twice a week to avoid frizz and puffiness. When it’s time for a wash, opt for a natural, nourishing shampoo and conditioner that won’t strip your hair of its natural oils.
  • Be gentle when drying too – don’t rub your hair roughly with a towel. The best approach is to gently squeeze out excess water then wrap your locks in an old cotton t-shirt to absorb moisture without frizzing up your curls.
  • Apply a curl-defining cream and let your hair air dry for a defined yet natural look.
  • If using a hairdryer, gently scrunch in some shape as it dries for added texture.
  • To slick back the front sections like Aaron, you’ll need some product – gel, wax or pomade work well.
  • Start with a small, coin-sized dollop rubbed between your palms before sweeping the front pieces back.
  • Finish with a spritz of hairspray to hold its shape.

3. Adam Peaty: Crew Cut With High Skin Fade

Even after being stuffed under a tight swim cap and submerged in chlorine for hours, swimmer Adam Peaty‘s crew cut still looked great. It was the perfect hairstyle choice for an Olympic medalist.

A good haircut should hold up through anything, and Adam’s crew cut with a high fade proved it. The short style is low maintenance too. He could have simply let it air dry, running his fingers through it to give it texture and tousle.

A quick swipe of pomade would transform his entire look into something more formal and polished – perfect for the evenings, with a celebratory drink in hand. To style the front into a quiff, a blast from a hairdryer will do the trick. Podium-worthy style without much effort.

What To Ask Your Barber:

  • Consult your barber and decide whether you want to go shorter or longer on top, or opt for a less drastic fade.
  • Adam’s hair looks to be around two inches on top, especially in the fringe area. It has graduated, textured lengths that are slightly shorter.
  • The sides of his hair are shaved into a severe high skin fade.
  • This is a bold look and may not be for everyone, so make adjustments with your barber to suit your preferences.
  • You’ll also need regular touch-ups at the barbershop if you get a high skin fade, so be prepared! Peaty gets his trimmed every six weeks or so.

How To Style:

  • For a more natural look, let your hair air dry and add a touch of pomade to boost texture.
  • Wanting a bit more lift? A little bit of mousse followed by a dab of pomade and a blowdry with a vent brush creates volume at the crown for a semi-quiff.
  • In a rush? A slick-back with some product keeps strands out of his face and gives it a more put-together look.
  • The chlorine in pools is tough on strands, so reach for a shampoo containing acids and compounds like Vitamin C and apple cider vinegar to dissolve chemicals post-swim.
  • Between washes, a nourishing leave-in conditioner or weekly deep conditioning treatment, like an overnight mask, will keep your hair moisturised.
