Fougère Fragrances

The word ‘fougère‘ literally means ‘fern-like‘ in French. In fragrance terms, this represents the ‘green‘ nature and ingredients in a fougère scent.

The key components of a fougère fragrance are vetiver, lavender and coumarin. Paul Parquet was supposedly the first parfumeur to use coumarin (which can be found in tonka beans) in fragrance, and therefore created the first fougère fragrance for the House of Houbigant in 1882.

Modern fougère fragrances are often blended with citrus (especially bergamot), herbaceous and floral notes.
