Sea salt spray is a hair product that every guy needs in his travel bag! Easy to use and quick to style, sea salt spray will add texture and body without leaving your hair feeling sticky, greasy, shiny or hard.
When luggage space is at a premium, a sea salt spray is the perfect travel companion. Small and versatile, it will take you from mornings by the pool to evenings at the bar.
Just back from a long weekend in New York, I attempted to pack light. Gone are the days when a smile and a, “oh, what am I like? I didn’t think it was that heavy,” can get your oversized luggage into the hold… not without paying a £60+ fee first. It’s time to think creatively with your packing.
As you’ll see, a sea salt spray is an extremely versatile product and will allow you to streamline your packing; making more room for your clothing and those must-have souvenirs.
What is sea salt spray?
Seat salt spray is exactly that: a spray formula with salt and additional compounds.
Salt water is known for absorbing the natural oils in your hair which is why you get texture, waves and volume after a day at the beach.
Due to its beach-like effect, sea salt spray has fast become a summer staple in the product arsenal of men around the world.
The TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray is an absolute go-to for me. It provides texture and volume to my hair and preps it for any further styling that I choose to use.
The benefits of sea salt spray
Due to its versatility, sea salt spray works perfectly with various hair types to both prep and style.
For fine hair
Sea salt spray will add grip and texture to fine hair. It’s a great prep treatment to boost fine and limp hair before using your usual styling product. It works perfectly before, pastes, putties and clays.
For thick hair
Sea salt spray is also great for thick hair. It will add texture, body and volume without weighing the hair down. It’s a really great option for guys who want to style their hair but don’t want it to look like it has any product in it.
Sea salt spray will not leave your hair sticky, greasy or hard.
For me, the TONI&GUY Sea Salt Texturising Spray is a safe option – especially for the days when I want my hair to look perfectly undone. As a guy with fine, flyaway hair, the spray gives my hair body and volume, without weighing it down.
Can sea salt spray damage your hair?
Like any hair product, it’s all about using it in moderation.
Yes, sea salt spray can dehydrate your hair (as salt will do to your skin) but – for me – the advantages far outweigh the very minor disadvantages.
Get to know your hair and what suits it. If you’re ever concerned, stop using your product and try something else.
How to use sea salt spray
I’m a big believer in hair first fashion – creating your own sense of style, from the hair down. Using TONI&GUY’s Sea Salt Texturising Spray, I’ve created two very different different looks.
For these styles, I’ve used a hair dryer to build in volume, but you can go without, here’s how…
Without a hair dryer
This technique is great for relaxed and loose styles. It will not hold hair up into high styles like a quiff or pompadour.
- Spritz 3-4 pumps of sea salt spray into your hair.
- Using your hands, work it through root to tip.
- Style your hair with your hands.
- Leave your hair to dry naturally.
Using a hair dryer
A hair dryer will speed up the process and allow you to work more volume into your hair.
Relaxed and loose style
- Spritz 3-4 pumps of sea salt spray into your hair.
- Using your hands, work it through root to tip.
- Set your hair dryer to a medium heat and fast speed.
- As you dry, work your hands through your hair, directing it down across your face.
- Stop using your hair dryer as soon as your hair is dry.
- Finish with TONI&GUY’s Putty to add movement and definition into the style.
Big voluminous quiff
- Coat your hair with sea salt spray. It should feel damp.
- Using your hands, work it through root to tip.
- Set your hair dryer to a medium heat and fast speed.
- As you dry, work your round brush through your hair, directing it up and over.
- Keep doing this until you’ve build the quiff structure in your hair.
- Stop using your hair dryer as soon as your hair is dry.
- Finish with TONI&GUY’s Styling Clay to really work the quiff style in.

Hey, I was wondering, since it’s bad to wash your hair everyday, but I use this product everyday, is it alright to leave it in my hair for a few days, or should I rinse it out everyday and shampoo every other day?
