Every man should have an overcoat in his wardrobe. It’s the perfect winter staple and ticks both boxes for function and fashion.
The overcoat is a flattering piece – complimenting the silhouette and elongating the body. It’s also a purchase that won’t go out of fashion, so it’s a safe investment.
In this blog and video (below), I’ve taken the classic overcoat and shown what you can get for four different budgets, all in this season’s key colour trend of camel.
The cheapest of the four is this one from New Look. It’s a three button down front with black inner and under collar lining.
At 59% wool, it’s a pretty decent price for what you get. This one sits pretty snuggly (I’m wearing a small) and isn’t that warm, so I’d recommend going one size up and layering with a thicker jumper.
I’m pretty impressed with this one from ASOS and it’s takes my award for best on a budget.
It’s form fitting but with a bit of leeway, so it won’t look too tight. At 79% wool, it feels pretty cosy and looks a lot more expensive than it is.
Selected Homme – £150.00 / $269.00
I was’t massively impressed with this one by Selected Homme. It’s only 70% wool and I think it looks cheaper than the one from ASOS.
I do, however, love the concealed button detailing which adds a little something different to the design.
This one from Reiss is by far the most luxurious of all four coats. Double breasted with a detachable faux fur collar, it’s 80% wool and the softest to touch.
I’m a massive fan of the fur collar – it really finishes it off. But if you disagree, it can be easily removed.
