Gran Hotel Son Net

This luxurious five star boutique hotel is situated on the Son Net estate which dates back to 1672. The hotel has 31 suites and rooms.

The outside of the hotel features golden sandstone covered in wild greenery, as well as striking historic dusky pink paint. Towering palm trees are dotted around the property, providing a sense of an exotic location.

It is extremely peaceful and private here with just the pine forests and mountains surrounding you.

If you fancy a dip, the hotel has a stunning 30 metre length pool which has amazing views of the mountains. There is also a gym, for any of you who can’t give up exercise whilst on holiday!

Interior

The interior of the hotel features a mixture of modern and traditional details. The bedrooms are large and mirror the colonial influences of the historic estate.

Some of the rooms have four-poster beds and stunning marble bathrooms. You can choose a room with a view over the garden, valley or pool. My room looked out over the pool and into the valleys. I slept with the window shutters open to be woken by the sun. It was beyond beautiful.

If you’re feeling flush, check into the Royal Suite. It is enormous and hosts its own living and dining area; as well as its own private garden. The “Do not disturb” sign will definitely come in handy!

Location

Gran Hotel Son Net is only 30 minutes from Palma airport and 20 minutes from the city centre.

It sits in glorious Mallorcan countryside with the backdrop of the UNESCO Sierra de Tramuntana mountains, which run from the southwest to the northeast of the island.

The hotel overlooks a quaint, and typically Mallorcan, village called Puigpunyent.

The island is breathtakingly beautiful. I would recommend hiring a car (I picked mine up at the airport) and take a day-trip up the west side of the island – stopping at Valldemossa, Deià and Sóller. Although I visited out of season, the temperature was mild and the island looked fantastic with the clear blue skies. Deià in particular looked picture-perfect. Look out for all the lemon and lime trees growing by the road.

Surroundings

If you fancy exploring outside the hotel there is horse riding, cycling, rock climbing and hiking available. I took a run down and up through the village. It was fairly fresh (read cold!) in the morning, so bring some layers if you’re visiting before spring/summer.

There is also a golf course just a 20-minute drive away, for any of you golf enthusiasts!

Food & Drink

The hotel has two restaurants; the Oleum in the main building and El Gazebo for outdoors dining in the Summer.

I was fortunate to try the fine dining at Oleum and it was absolutely delicious. We had a 5 course tasting menu and also sampled some of the local wine.  It’s a really intimate experience and would be perfect for sharing with a partner… or just as a treat for yourself!

You can expect a modern take on typical Mallorcan dishes, using locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Plus, the wine and cocktail menu is definitely worth a browse!

Gran Hotel Son Net really is the epitome of a luxury boutique hotel. My whole experience – from check in to check out – was pure perfection.

The staff were great and really made my stay. They were welcoming and friendly. It really did feel like I was staying in someone’s [very large and beyond luxurious] home.

I’d definitely recommend a stay at Gran Hotel Son Net – in or out of season. I’ll be sure to return in summer to make full use of the pool and outdoor bars. I’ve already picked out my spot at the bar!
