Men Grooming Trends 2021 – Ranking Mens’ Care Priorities In The Covid Era

Sara Law details the main grooming trends from 2020 that have made their way to 2021.

The year 2020 wasn’t easy on anyone. The worldwide lockdown definitely came with changes in work and school life. But, being confined to our homes also meant new trends when it comes to our grooming. What are these men’s grooming trends?

Truth be told, we all saw many new trends come and go in the COVID-19 era. The closure of barbershops and a lack of social life led many people to try out new trends. Some of them caught my attention and were honestly good enough to continue on to 2021.

Here are my favourite mens’ grooming trends for 2021.

1. Embracing Your Natural Grey Hair

2020 will always be known as the year of the coronavirus pandemic-also the year in which men worldwide began growing out their natural hair.

For older folks, this meant embracing their grey hair. Millions of men spent the initial lockdown period within their homes, far away from their favourite salons and hairdressers. Without a qualified expert to handle their hair, these men were forced to take a backseat and go all-natural.

Going dye-free is never easy, especially for those who are used to regularly retouching their hair colour. Many people feel like dying their hair enables them to defy the aging spell that’s looming not too far behind. Such people tend to develop self-esteem problems when their hair is left untreated for too long. Grey hair was a source of shame for many men…until the pandemic struck.

Celebrities like Will Smith and Colin Jost, to name a few, decided to embrace the grey hair trend during the summer of 2020 and haven’t stopped since. Grey hair suits both of them very well. Honestly, there’s no real reason to hide it. After all, grey hair is just a part of your natural beauty, so flaunt it!

2. Bigger Beards

But wait…going all-natural isn’t limited to just the hair on your scalp. Interestingly, many men also decided to let their beards grow big and hang loose this pandemic.

Deion Sanders is an excellent example of this phenomenon; while his beard didn’t grow out too long, it certainly did grow long enough to make him look his best.

DJ Khaled also embraced his natural beard, giving fans a fresh and much-needed break from his traditional designer beard. After years of tailoring his hair to match high-society celebrity trends, he finally gave in to the pressure of the pandemic and grew his beard out. One can’t deny that it served him well! DJ Khaled has never looked more at peace with himself.

Beards don’t need to be all messy and tangled, though, unlike DJ Khalid’s lockdown look. If you’ve grown out your beard this year, too, and are looking for ways to style it, you may want to incorporate suitable products into your routine.

Many men swear by using hair wax to shape their beards in the morning. A good, high-quality wax will last you throughout the day and help your beard frame your face perfectly.

3. Proper Skin Care Regimes

In addition to grey hair and big beards, 2020 will also go down as the year when men began to take better care of their skin. Now, I’m not saying that all men avoided skincare in the past. It’s just that 2020 finally offered men a chance to take notice of their skin and hop onto the skincare bandwagon.

Increased stress was another factor that contributed to the world, seeing more men embrace effective skin care regimes. Stress does a wonderful job at emphasizing dark circles, wrinkles, and unpigmented skin.

Sometimes, things get really bad, and that’s when you need to start using the right skincare products to keep your face looking fresh and healthy. This is especially true if you’re out in the sun a lot. For example, athletes prioritize using the most comfortable activewear and the best skincare products.

It might surprise you to know that almost every male actor out there has his own unique skincare routine as well. Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, and Chris Hemsworth are just some examples, but, to be frank, the list is endless!

The best thing about skin care regimes is that you can customize them to suit your personal needs. While some men prefer to stick to just face wash and moisturizer, you’ll see others going in with heavier creams and fancy serums. There is no “right” way to do skincare. You just have to find what works for you and go with it!

4. Loosening Up With Long Hair

Long hair, don’t care! Are you one of those men who decided to grow their hair out this year?

The early days of the coronavirus pandemic saw barber shops all over the country go into lockdown, leaving men with no place to go for a haircut.

While many men rushed straight into the barber shop the moment lockdown ended, others decided to fully embrace their locks and let them grow! For some, growing their hair out long has always been a secret fantasy, and what better time to dive into it than 2020’s massive lockdown?

Long-haired men are beautiful. There’s just something about the way it looks, the laid-back vibe it gives off, that gives long-haired men a unique brand of relaxed confidence. Don’t trust me? Just look at Aquaman (Jason Momoa)!

5. Cutting It All Off

Long hair not your thing? Don’t worry! In 2020, many men decided to DIY their hair super short at home, while even more resorted to shaving it all off! Doing so rewarded them with a scalp-rash-free summer and a chance to mix up their usual style.

If you’ve been considering cutting all your hair off but aren’t sure if it’ll suit you, that’s okay. It’s definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but you can’t deny that some people look stunning with(out) it. Pair up a shaved head with a nice formal shirt, and you’ve got a pristine office look!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a prime example. If you’re a football fan, just take a look at David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo; both shaved their hair off in 2020 and didn’t regret it at all!

Conclusion

2020 was definitely not the best year we’ve seen by many standards. But, 2020 did us all a favour by encouraging men to embrace more natural looks when it comes to grooming.

Out of the 5 grooming trends listed above, which ones did you try out this past year?
