Yeonjun’s hair hits the perfect sweet spot between retro and red-carpet ready.

The curtain cut has been making a comeback over the last few years, but seems to be particularly beloved by K-pop icons.

However, Yeonjun’s version, with that cool, dyed greyish tone, pushes it straight into 2025 territory. The ash grey colour? That’s toner magic over bleached blonde strands, and it instantly adds a moody, editorial vibe that gives it a fashion-forward edge.

The light layering keeps the volume in check, while the centre part elongates the face: bonus points if for those with a round face shape or strong jawline.

Then there’s the colour. You can’t get that ashy silvery tone on dark hair like Yeonjun’s unless you’ve bleached or added blonde highlights first. And as Yeonjun had blonde hair in the summer this year, it means he had the perfect base to start with.

As there’s a lot of his natural black colour peeping through, his hairstylist would likely have applied a semi-permanent ash-grey colour over the top of blonde highlights – rather than do a full head of bleach – to get this look.

Be aware that bleaching or highlighting your hair is always damaging. And to bleach/highlight black hair like Yeonjun’s – which probably took more than one attempt to get a light enough shade – evokes next-level damage. Therefore, deep conditioning treatments will become your new bathroom best friend.

The payoff, however, is pretty damn good, right?

What To Ask Your Barber:

• Ask for a centre-parted curtain cut with soft, mid-length layers that fall around cheekbone level.
• Keep the back slightly longer: think subtle mullet influence without going full retro.
• Request weight removal through the mid-lengths to help the front sections move naturally.
• If you’re going for Yeonjun’s colour, show your hairstylist the kind of look you’re after.
• Discuss what would work best for your hair and find out the process involved.
• Get your stylist to be honest with you about the potential damage repercussions before you take the plunge.
• Also ensure you discuss root maintenance and how often you’ll need a colour refresher – and the costs involved.
• If you do go for it, your hairstylist will need to bleach or highlight the hair first. Ask them if they use K-18, Olaplex or similar (aka bonding products used during and after the colour process to help stop some of the damage).
• After the bleaching/highlighting process (keep in mind you may need more than one done over a few weeks) your hairdresser will then apply a semi-permanent colour/toner over the top of your bleached hair to give it that ashy grey/silver tone that Yeonjun has.
