Josh Heuston’s Hair: Tousled, Curly Swept Back Style

Aussie actor/model Josh Heustonโ€™s hair game is what happens when you mix laid-back Bondi Beach charm with Hollywood polish.

Why We Love It:

Josh Heuston’s hair journey is as intriguing as his acting career: he revealed in this interview that his curls didn’t develop until he was around 20.

He decided to embrace the change of texture and grew his hair into the tousled, medium-length look he’s now known for.

As for his grooming regime? It’s refreshingly minimal – no 12-step routine for our Josh (you can see his recommendations in the Product section of Get The Look).

Josh favours Redken shampoo and conditioner, washing his hair just once a week – he’s obviously listened to MFH as minimal hair washing, when possible, is advice that’s given regularly on this site.

As for keeping those curls with just the right amount of tousle and that softly swept-back vibe? Josh simply uses a texture paste for hold and definition.

He’s not averse to shaving his head or having a huge style revamp for a role, either. โ€œFor any role, if they asked me to change my hair I would do it in a heartbeat. I would love to have a mullet for a role, that would be amazing,” he said.

What To Ask Your Barber:

  • Josh Heuston’s hair is a medium, layered cut that builds shape around the crown and temples without thinning the ends too muchโ€”this helps maintain curl density.
  • Request a soft, scissor-cut neckline rather than a blunt finish.
  • Discuss maintaining enough length for the curls to gently be swept back back, but not so much that it flattens the top.
  • Talk to your barber about working with the curl pattern when they cut the hair, rather than against it.

Get The Look

  • Like Josh, try and wash the hair just once a week, using a sulfate-free shampoo to avoid stripping natural oils.
  • Condition like itโ€™s your religion: Curly hair drinks moisture so a leave-in conditioner formulated for curly hair is your best bet.
  • When towel drying donโ€™t rough it upโ€”pat and gently squeeze the hair and wrap it in a microfibre towel or cotton T-shirt to soak up more of the moisture while you get dressed.
  • Scrunch, donโ€™t brush: Use fingers or a wide-tooth comb on wet hair. Brushing when dry = frizz.
  • Apply product when the hair is damp: Work in a curl cream and/or texture paste while your hair is towel-dried.
  • Air drying is best for hair health. But, if you’re in a rush, use a diffuser on a low heat setting.
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase to safeguard your curls and discourage frizz.
