Fabien Frankel’s Hair: Short Textured Hairstyle
With its classic short style, House of the Dragon star Fabien Frankel’s hair nails the simple-yet-sophisticated brief – and MFH is here for it.
Why We Love It:
Look up ‘suave’ in the grooming dictionary and you may well spot Fabien Frankel’s hair. The smart and timeless feel of this short, textured style suits the House of the Dragon actor to a tee.
London-born Fabien – who plays the less-than-charming Ser Criston Cole in the hit Game of Thrones spinoff – has shared more intel about his on-screen character’s hair than his own.
On the divisive decision to chop Ser Criston’s once-lustrous mane into more of a Caesar cut for the battle-riddled second season of the show, he told Esquire: “The idea behind it was just that I felt that long hair was very impractical for war. It’s much easier to keep clean. It was really a practical decision … It’s closer to military than what I have”.
What To Ask Your Barber:
- If Fabien Frankel’s hair is your goal, ask for a short, tapered back and sides, with more length left on top – the latter looks to be at least an inch or so, but ask your barber to advise.
- For this soft scissor cut, they may point cut (or use a similar technique) to create texture and shape, while leaving a little more bulk towards the front for styling.
- They’ll also ensure a smooth, subtle transition between the top length and shorter back/sides.
- After a little more edge? You could incorporate a fade or even an undercut style, where the back/sides are buzzed or very closely cut.
Get The Look
- To ace a look like Fabien Frankel’s hair, consider working a volumising pre-styler – like a mousse or sea salt product – into towel-dried hair. Blow drying? Pick one that offers heat protection.
- Use your hands, as well as the dryer and a comb if needed, to start directing and shaping the texture on top.
- Direct the air downwards on the back and sides to encourage those parts into a flatter, more streamlined position.
- Now, warm a pea-sized-amount of matte styling product – a wax or clay, for example – between your hands, then work it through your hair. Use your fingers to create the finishing texture you want.
- Hot tip: it can be worth deep-cleaning your hair with a clarifying shampoo between one and four times a month, depending on your hair type and routine. This helps to remove any product residue, excess oils and so on.
